about

This EP sees a collective of emerging artists coming together, inspired by the preservation and celebration of Indigenous South African music. This debut EP explores themes around displacement, time travel, waking up, dreams, marriage and the patriarchy, awakening to purpose and the power of oral tradition in documenting our histories. The group comes together in the Unlearning and overstanding of their purpose after spending 2017 workshopping and learning how to build and play uHadi and uMrhube Xhosa bows. This EP is the outcome of their year long performance based workshop, and the beginning of their careers.

This is Found At Sea's first EP dedicated to our teacher and healer Madosini Lathozi, who helped us find our deeper connection and and purpose in this wonderful world of Xhosa bow music. We give thanks to the greater bow playing community, Mthwakazi - our older sister and guide, we thank you for holding the torch high and inspiring us.

We give thanks to the crew that made this EP with us. Producer, friend and sound engineer Swakhile Mawasha. We are so blessed to have had the honour of working with you all year. Your unwavering support, hard work and dedication to the craft has brought us so much joy and inspiration. Thank you for all the commitment. Our third band member and brother, Shakeel Sohail Gibran Cullis! Thank you for your sheer genius on the double bass. Your commitment to us and to music has done something unimaginable to the sense of purpose. Thank you for journeying with us, playing with us for next to nothing and helping us in building a sound that we'll be sharing until we're grey and flowing in that abundance. We love you and we are so proud of you.

Our dear friend Tariq plays most hypnotic tunes on the flute and was with Found At Sea as we started out. An astronomer with an open heart and a musical soul, we thank you for your patience, support and unique approach to music making.

Thank you to City Varsity sound studios, Ayanda Duma, Kurtis Green and Duduza Mchunu for spending hours with us in the studio and supporting us on this journey. The love we and gratitude ripples into infinity and beyond. Ayanda Duma - thank you for being such a visual maestro - this album art is outstanding and so are you!
